RE-OPENING DATES: Free Store Reopening on November 10th
The Free Store will reopen on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 since we suspended services in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a great need for warm clothes during the winter; therefore, our team has made the decision to reopen the Free Store on Tuesday mornings, with enhanced precautions in place to keep our clients and our volunteers as safe as possible.
The Free Store will use a new system that involves two separate jobs:
1. Check-In: Work outside the city hall doors to check in our unsheltered neighbors, take clothing orders, and hand them their bagged clothes once their bag is readied by the volunteers inside.
Safety measures: masks, face shields, and hand sanitizer (all provided by OTM).
2. Bag Assembly: Work inside our storeroom to put together bags of requested items for our unsheltered neighbors for the check-in crew to then pass along to our clients.
Safety measures: masks, (face shields--optional), hand sanitizer, and a desk that includes a plexiglass front shield (all provided by OTM). No interaction is required with the public beyond other volunteers, and very minimal interaction with the outdoor check-in volunteers.
With our new system in place, our unsheltered friends will line up outside the City Hall entrance six feet apart. We will have a security officer on site each week to help us ensure the proper distancing. We will ensure each customer is supplied with a mask if needed. Each person will be checked in by a 'check-in' volunteer. The 'bag assembly' volunteers inside will then receive the order and put together the items for our unsheltered friend who is then given the bag by the check-in volunteer.
